Do you have friends or family members who always seem to have cute professional photos taken on every holiday? Are you wondering how they have the time and the money to splurge on these frequent photo sessions?

I bet you I know their secret: photography mini-sessions.

What are Mini Photo Sessions?

It’s exactly what it sounds like - a mini version of a typical session a photographer provides!

While time is the biggest difference between typical photography sessions and mini-photography sessions, there are a few other ways mini-sessions differ from a traditional photoshoot:

  • Photography mini-sessions are held a few times per year
  • They occur on a predetermined date
  • They typically have a theme

For Kaitlin Woods Photography specifically, I offer multiple back-to-back mini-sessions on a Saturday or Sunday at one location throughout the year. This way, I can book multiple clients back-to-back in 15-minute time slots.

How Long is a Mini Photo Session?

Mini-sessions typically last 15-20 minutes.

Is 15 Minutes Enough Time to Get Good Photos of My Family?

The “mini” answer: yes! It’s actually crazy how many good photos you can capture in 15 minutes.

I typically spend the first 5 minutes capturing that classic posed photo, aka the one that mom probably wants for the annual Christmas card.

After poses are done, I spend the next 10 minutes directing different prompts (tickle your sister, play peek-a-boo, etc.) to capture more candid moments. 90% of the Christmas cards I receive often use candid photos because they are so dang cute!

Before you know it, time’s up! I typically capture 60-100 photos during those 15 minutes, which I narrow down to 10-15 photos, edit, then send to you.

What are the Benefits of a Mini Photography Session?

Benefit #1: It’s Cheaper than a Full Session

A mini photography session is a cost-effective way to professionally document your family and loved ones during a specific time of the year. They are perfect if you only want 10-15 final photos.

Benefit #2: Less Time, Fewer Meltdowns

Since mini photography sessions are over quickly, it means there is less time for potential meltdowns. If you have babies, toddlers, or young kids and are worried that a full photography session may be too long, mini-sessions may be a great option for you.

Benefit #3: Fun Themes

The most popular mini-session type is a holiday or Christmas-themed mini-session so families can get photos done for their holiday cards or gifts. However, I offer a variety of mini-sessions throughout the year, including spring themes and back-to-school picture sessions.

Are Mini Sessions Worth It?

Heck YES!

With the cost of seemingly everything going up, a full session may not be economically friendly for you and your family. I get it!

Getting professional family photos done can be a splurge for most people; however, it’s important to document important milestones and holidays with your family.

Since mini-sessions typically revolve around a theme or time of year, it’s a great way to capture those special moments with your kids and family. Plus, they are quick and more cost-effective than a full photography session.
